I am a graduate of the Sauder School of Business at UBC. Upon entering this program, I had no clue what I wanted to do beyond completing it with flying colours. Four and a half years, one marketing specialization, one student exchange to Mexico, and three co-op terms later, I have come no closer to figuring it all out. Although I am a realist in knowing that business and money make the world go round, I am an equal idealist in loathing everything about that notion. So it is at this crossroad of life known as post-secondary graduation where I stand uncertainly poised to fight the banal and predictable life-path of a commerce graduate.

The Official Vancouver Beginning

Looking back at my last post it would seem that I like to dream big. After looking into car rentals and posting my information to literally every car swap website I could find (well I could only find one), I accepted the boring fate of a cross-country air traveler. I mean don't get me wrong, the view of the Rockies peeking through clouds gets me everytime, but I have yet to experience the simplicity and expansive horizons of the prairies or the unique personalities of each maritime province. One day...one day soon hopefully.

So after a quick and somewhat anti-climatic trip back to Ottawa (scarily it feels less and less like home nowadays), I came back to Vancouver to start my job with Antarctica Digital. It has a been a wild ride so far where I've learned a lot of the technicalities of e-marketing, how to both interview and fire someone, and how to manage a team of 20 something year olds. It has been intense, and I can't say that I like it or that I would stick with it beyond a year or two...but I've learned a lot about everything I need for my next stepping stone. Plus I want to stay in Vancouver for at least a few more years so it fits. I have my side projects as well in the advertising industry so if all goes according to plan, I'll find something in a Vancouver or Toronto (or out of country fingers crossed) based agency later on before stopping to do a Masters I think. Who knows though, my plans usually change on a whim (ahem Australia)...so we'll see.

Oh ya AND I graduated. It was more momentus for me because it was the first time in a good decade that I had both parents simultaneously enjoy one of my acheivements. Much stress, crying, and worrying was involved but I think we all came out happy...me most of all...thank you both for coming. It was also a great day because I re-connected with a boy that is turning out to be like nobody I've dated in a while. He makes me happy:) Alas, this whole summer has been full of happy moments, for which I'm very grateful.

The grouse grind is waiting so I must be off, but I'll check in again as soon as possible.
